Knoxville photographer - flash workshop

Learning to Use Your Camera’s Flash–on- and off-camera

maximum 15 participants to allow highest instructor interaction

Knoxville photography - speedlight workshopThis intensive workshop covers the use of your camera’s external flash from stem to stern. Lighting and using your camera’s external flash are really very simple when broken down into small bites. That is what we will be doing throughout the entire workshop. We will start a review of equipment-–various flash options, batteries, chargers, modifiers, gels, stands, bags–-what is useful, what to buy first, and always what is the most affordable. Then we are going into an in-depth exploration of how far you can push the capabilities of the flash while it is on the camera. We start discussing various lighting principles and how to apKnoxville photography lessons - speedlight workshopply them. After you have the concept down, then you will be doing these techniques yourself to learn not only how they work but also what their limitations are. Once you find that you’ve become a hot dog while having the flash attached to the camera, then we will expand your basic understanding to new creative horizons. We will review how to trigger the off-camera flashes as well as how to apply the same principles you have already learned in more complex setups. We’ll discuss and review various lighting patterns. Then, as throughout the entire workshop, you’ll practice it. This is a hands-on workshop where you should learn all the knowledge you need to start a lifetime of fun and creativity.

“I have owned a flash since I bought my first DSLR, but every time I pulled it out of my camera bag my hands started to sweat. Colby’s flash workshop finally allowed my flash and me to become friends. It was a wonderful conjunction of theory and practical application. Each concept was presented followed by a hands-on experience of putting that concept into practice. The workshop numbers were held in check so I could get one-on-one help when I needed it. Talking about the Inverse Square Law is one thing, but when I actually saw how it worked with my flash, it finally made perfect sense. Couple this with Colby’s easy-going style and you have a template for success. I had such a good time that my cheeks are still sore from smiling. If you can attend only one workshop this year, make this the one!” – Rick E.
