Ready for Takeoff: What Photographers Need to Know About Flying Drones

May 12, 2027 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Aerial drone photograph promoting the Ready for Takeoff drone photography workshop for photographers in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Drone photography for photographers has opened up an entirely new perspective for creating images. Before you put a drone in the air, however, you need to understand the rules that come with flying it.

This photography drone workshop provides practical drone photography education for photographers. Photographers who want to fly recreationally or use a drone in their business will learn the basic requirements. The program covers the rules for legally operating a drone in the United States. You’ll also learn the important differences between recreational and professional operations.

During this drone photography training, we’ll cover the major rules every drone pilot should understand. Topics include pilot requirements, registration, Remote ID, airspace, altitude limits, and flying near airports. Other areas include operations over people, night flying, and common situations photographers encounter.

You’ll also learn a practical process for evaluating a potential flight before takeoff. Common misconceptions can get new drone pilots into trouble, so we’ll address those as well.

The goal isn’t to turn you into an aviation attorney. Instead, you’ll gain a practical foundation for flying safely, legally, and with confidence.
